Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Clementine (again)

Glancing over at the lost sailor's pub (which is actually becoming a pretty good site, lots of show recommendations), I had to notice a review of Clementine written by.....
http://lostsailorpub.forumup.it/about483-lostsailorpub.html

Well-done, I thought!
Very different approach from the way I handled it:

(I forgot to mention the 10/30/68 Clementine jam in my review though, which is much more developed than 10/8, and is closer in style to the 1/26/69 version.)

So much discussion devoted to a song that was performed live only four times (that we know of) and didnt make it onto an album, it must be very special?

The first time I ever heard 1/20/68 my mind was so completely blown I could not believe my ears. Coltrane inspired Grateful Dead in 1968? And as most of you know, my mind is still blown. (insert emoticon)

Amazing how well Pigpen was able to swirl a jazzy organ, while TC's aproach at the Avalon was completely different. The song sounded so different each time it was played, I wonder how many more performances are missing?. Thanks again LIA!

Yes, we all know that making it onto a studio album is the symbol of success for a Grateful Dead song, such as France and Pride of Cucamunga!
Clementine is a great song, it is unforunate they didn't develop it more.

By the way, the troll was someone from here who will remain nameless, and he got a slap on this wrist.

Thanks for the plug Light Into Ashes! Appreciate it, glad you are liking it.

It was alot more violent than that, Earl!

And K-Man, I dont recall mentioning "studio" anywhere. Only pointing out that in the grand sceme of things historicaly, its rather amazing how significant the jam is.

Can you imagine if Anthem was a double album with a Clementine, Spanish Jam and Viola Lee on it?

must be something in the water. I listened to both 1-20 and 2-2 the other night just for the Clementines. Then again it is clementine season, right?

For the record, I really don't want to know what emoticon you were planning on inserting to display your mind being blown.

pretty nice post, although it looks like they are having some troll issues there as well. At least they have a ban option, unlike this public forum where you get more chances than Steve Howe (pitcher not guitar player).

On the 'expanded' release of 'Aoxomoxoa,' there is a bonus track, "Clementine Jam." This is basically a backing track of "Clementine" with no vocals. I guess they didn't think it was worth finishing, but it's as close to a 'studio' version as you'll get. :)
